Avalon, Brendaan and Maarten

The Maartenhuis has four residential homes:

Avalon, named after the island where, according to legend, King Arthur is buried;
Brendaan, after the monk Brendaan, who after many years of wandering finally found his spot;
and Maarten, after Saint Martin, the saint who gave half his cloak to a beggar.

Staff also live in the homes with their families. Other staff live elsewhere on the island or on the mainland.

If necessary, professional stand-by workers are brought in from the nearby surrounding area as extra help.

Special attention has been paid to the building and layout of the residential homes, working areas and community room of the Maartenhuis.

The design of the buildings is based on the enveloping, ‘healing’ effect that can be conveyed by the shape and layout of the buildings.
